Emma Stenström is Assistant Professor at Stockholm School of Economics and Guest Professor at Konstfack. She holds a PhD in Business Adminstration, and is primarily interested in the intersection between arts and business; culture and commerce.

Born 1964 in Uppsala, she took her MSc at Stockholm School of Economics (SSE), and worked for five years for Handelsbanken. After an ethical breakdown, she went back to university to get a Bachelor in liberal arts. She later enrolled in the PhD-program at SSE and École des HEC in Montréal, and finished her PhD in the year of 2000.

She has since worked at SSE, apart from the year of 2006/2007, when she was general manager of the organization ”Arts and Business Sweden” and hosted a tv-show “Arty” at Sveriges Television.

As a researcher, Emma Stenström has conducted research in fields such as the visual and the performing arts, contemporary circus, craft, design, aesthetic labor, body business, cultural entrepreneurship and cultural policy.
As a teacher, she is responsible for courses in leader- and entrepreneurship at Konstfack and for the Master in Management at SSE. In the year of 2005, she was voted “Teacher of the year” by the students of SSE.

Apart from academic work, Emma Stenström has written close to 200 columns in the daily business paper “Dagens Industri”, she has worked with television and radio, and written many popular newspaper and magazine articles. Together with Tobias Nielsén, she runs the professional blog: www.kulturekonomi.se, which was nominated Best cultural blog in 2009.

She has also served on the board of directors of the Swedish Arts Council, among other cultural and commercial organizations.
