Martin Avila has been a member of the faculty of the Experience Design Group since 2007, and is also a Doctorate candidate at HDK (School of Design and Crafts) in Gothenburg.

Martín Avila obtained a Degree in Industrial Design from the National University of Córdoba in Argentina in 1995. Has worked in Ireland (1996) as an industrial designer (Hood associates) and studied aesthetics at UCD (University College of Dublin). In 1997 moved to London, England, where he attended the Master in Design Studies at the Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, obtaining a distinction for his final graduation project researching on electronic books (On the unreadable: The book as a machine). After a short return to his native land, Argentina, he moved to Sweden where he worked as a graphic designer until 2002, when he became a special student at the MA in Industrial Design at Konstfack in Stockholm. After graduation, Martin has worked as a guest lecturer at Konstfack, Beckmans, SSES (Stockholm School of Entrepreneurship) and KTH (Royal Institute of Technology) in Sweden; and also in Argentina, at UNC (National University of Córdoba) and Universidad Siglo XXI, in Colombia, at Universidad de Los Andes in Bogotá and in the US at the School of Design of the Art Institute of Chicago among others. Between 1999 and 2003, has published design related articles for Experimenta magazine (Spain). In 2005 Martin started Aestratego, a consulting company providing knowledge management to design firms. Member of the Swedish national research school “Designfakulteten”, Martin’s doctoral project at HDK (School of Design and Crafts) in Gothenburg, studies “Hospitality and Hostility in design”.
