The Swedish toy company BRIO is collaborating with EDG to envision the future of play by seeking to define how play is “triggered” between humans. This is a key research question, not only for BRIO but for society at large; “play” stimulates a child’s development and that of society as a whole by highlighting what is new around us and to us, giving rise to new knowledge, skills and innovative products and services.
EDG/BRIO is committed to creating new knowledge about play and through play for the benefit of humankind. We anticipate that the project Experience Design: The Future of Play will help us develop our:
- design and research methodologies
- teaching
- network and industry partners
- playfulness
- New interdisciplinary PhDs
From a longer term perspective, since EDG combines interdisciplinary and practice-based methodologies applied to actual situations, one of the key results and benefits will be an increase in our expertise as methodology-builders: we can take the metrics for each successful interdisciplinary or transdisciplinary methodology, adapt and apply them to other contexts. Furthermore, as we establish closer cooperation with Swedish industry, we strengthen our capacity to forge innovative initiatives between Swedish education, research, the public sector and Swedish industry at large.
