YKW, code-named “You Know What,” was a black-project initiated by the invitation of the Karolinska Institutet, on behalf of the Nobel Committee. Bound by a confidentiality agreement we decided to call it YKW. Commissioned to design the after party for the Nobel Prize ceremony EDG decided to design an experience that would feature entertaining explanations of why each Nobel Laureate won their prizes in physics, chemistry, medicine, and literature. At the center of the YKW studio was the question of how to negotiate a new relationship between entertainment, hard science and literature. The theme song for YKW was “If I Only Had A Brain” from the movie the Wizard of Oz. Visitors were serenaded and then given a small red brain which they could use over the course of the evening to unlock the accounts of each Laureate’s achievement.
